Technical Inspection & Emissions 2026

Updated official values, validity by vehicle type, and the most important CDAs in Colombia.

What is the Technical Inspection?

The Technical-Mechanical and Emissions Inspection (RTM) is a mandatory periodic inspection in Colombia for all vehicles on public roads.

Its purpose is to verify that the vehicle meets road safety technical conditions and that its emissions are within permitted limits.

Driving without a valid inspection incurs a fine of 15 DLMW (~$711,750 COP) and immediate vehicle immobilization.

What does the RTM inspect?

CDAs verify 9 main vehicle systems in each inspection

Braking system (efficiency, pressure, and imbalance)
Lights and electrical system (headlights, turn signals, brake lights)
Steering and geometry (alignment and play in the steering)
Suspension and shock absorbers
Pollutant emissions and exhaust opacity
Vehicle identification (chassis, engine, VIN, plate)
Tire and wheel condition
Horn, windshield wipers, and rearview mirrors
Exterior signaling and horn system
